Ashlyn has been out with strep and will be having tonsil and adenoids surgery Thursday, April 8,. She will be recovering for the following week and a half.

Parents–see how well your daughter knows her gymnastics terms!  Ask her to show you the following positions or skills, and (to help me out with something I’m working on,  take a pic and send it to Monica via email: (monica@go2platinum.org)

 

Salto: an aerial skill where the lower body rotates over the upper body. Can be performed forward, backward, or sideward.

 

Hurdle: long low powerful SKIP, which may be preceded by one or more running steps.  This is used to tumble (on floor, beam and vault).

 

Cast: performed on a bar; Gymnast starts in a front support, pikes at the hips, then immediately kicks the legs back and up while maintaining the support position with STRAIGHT arms and “HOLLOW body”. Eventual goal is to obtain a handstand.

 

 

 

 

The current compulsory team, levels 4-6 will be having skill verification to test for the next competitive level.  All skills on the PGA list must be verified (checked off) on June 4th  for levels 4-6 and on July 9th for level 7 in order to prove physical readiness to compete that level.  The purpose of the skill verification is to serve as one of the main tools in determining the level the gymnast is realistically ready to compete at a USAG competition.  Of course, other factors also go into the decision of level readiness for competition.  These include mental toughness, training attitude, work ethic, and dedication to constant improvement. There will be 2 mock testings which will be sent home with each gymnast as a progress report that the girls may share with their parents.  The mock testing days will be the first Fridays of April and May. (for level 7 skills, June will also be a mock testing). There will not be a makeup for the mock testing, so please try to make sure to be present and on time for all skill verification days.  Parents, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please speak with Monica.
